Peralta had been acquired earlier in the same season from Milwaukee and was Mets Trade Rumors again as he approached free agency, netting the Mets another prospect return before he could leave in the offseason.
Stearns described the strategy as forward-looking. “I believe it was the right thing to do, given where we are in this season, to make these decisions,” he said. “Our goal is to move the organization forward in the best way possible to ensure that we have a far better season next year and each season beyond.”
Why Lindor and Robert Stayed Put
Francisco Lindor was one of the central figures in Mets trade rumors leading up to the deadline, but a deal never materialized. The shortstop is signed through 2031, with roughly $160 million remaining on his contract and a full no-trade clause, making any trade financially and logistically complex. Luis Robert Jr. also generated significant market interest but remained a Met. He returned from a lumbar spine disc herniation in late July and has struggled at the plate, hitting .197 with a .610 OPS in 35 games this season.
